Sometimes you’Re lucky and WinXP SP2 install CDs will recognize the controllers right from the start when installing, but in practice, and especially with Asus boards’ Silicon Image controllers, I’ve always had to use the extra floppy disk to feed the drivers.
I will keep looking. Set it to a RAID of one disk.
Of course I could be wrong, but I would suggest you concentrate on finding the correct setup options in the BIOS setup screen as nothing I have read indicates the board can’t handle a GB drive.

Should I remove it? During bootup, the fast controller screen gives me options for the drive, but nothing seems to be going on.

December 11th, I downloaded it 2 days ago. I would like to know is there is a particular procedure for setting up the SATA headers, so they can recognize this drive.
Fast trak sees the drive but the setup wants to make it a Raid, Strip drive, and allows no change from that. It is connected sat the HDD and the power source. A7v8xx your manual, if I remember correctly, your mobo only supports sata1 If as U say U have purchaced an new harddrive, it will be SataII, unless you specified a sataI harddrive.

You will need to have the SATA driver disquette ready and satw the F6 key when prompted about using additional controller drivers during setup. Default setting is disabled.
I have revision 2. Mine is for an ealier revision.
